Polymer transfers are done by coating a printed surface with about 6+ layers of polymer/gel medium, letting them dry 8 hours in between each layer, and then washing away the paper surface. The polymer soaks up the ink and once you wash away the paper, you're left with a flexible reproduction of the image.
